API updates

Transaction Response Codes

The following response codes have been added to provide clearer feedback on transaction outcomes:
  • I100 — Push payment transaction initiated
  • E307 — Transaction ID is invalid
  • E306 — Transaction status unknown, enquire again after 2 minutes
The new response codes should be handled in client applications for improved error diagnostics. Refer to the Transaction Responses page for the complete list.

Push Payments

Push Payments enable merchants to initiate payment requests that are pushed directly to a customer’s mobile device for the customer to authorise. The following push payment features have been added:
  • Added Push Payments Overview documenting the Mobile Money push and hosted checkout pathways, the supported webhook events and the implementation guidelines.
  • Added Direct Push Payment API endpoint for initiating instant USSD payment prompts to customer Mobile Money (MoMo) wallets, with the final transaction status communicated asynchronously through webhooks.
  • Added Standard Checkout Service to the platform, enabling merchants to initiate checkout payments through the Standard Checkout flow using Card Payments and Mobile Money (STK Push / USSD Prompt).
  • Added Push Payment Webhook event documentation covering the pushpayment.success, pushpayment.failed and pushpayment.reversed events.
  • Added Test Accounts page listing the sandbox Mobile Money test accounts and the step-by-step workflow for simulating successful and failed push payments.
  • Added Test Cards page listing the sandbox Visa and Mastercard test cards for simulating card payments, including 3DS authentication outcomes.

Accept Payments

  • Updated Accept Payments Overview to document the supported collection pathways, the developer best practices and the transaction reconciliation guidance.

Account Top-up

  • Added Account Top-up overview page documenting the user-initiated account prefunding pathway for the Mobile Money and bank transfer channels, the supported webhook events, how to test an account top-up in sandbox and the implementation guidelines.

Merchant Portal

  • Added Simulate Push Payment to the merchant portal, allowing merchants to test MNO push payments in the sandbox.
